Yes, you can, but it’s the job for a professional. Painting your UPVC sash windows is an effective way to change their appearance. The paint will last more than ten years if applied correctly and so long as care is taken not to damage the paint surface. You will also find painting much cheaper than replacement. We always say if there’s nothing mechanically wrong with your sash windows, then replacement is a waste. It’s kinder on the environment and your wallet to get them painted.
Of course, painting UPVC sash windows brings a challenge with regards to painting every surface point. As you know, sash windows move up and down and some surface points are exposed while others aren’t. As professional painters, it is our duty to inform you it is impossible to paint the hidden areas of the window without dismantling them, which is not something we do (unless you do it first).
Instead, we manipulate the window in its setting, moving the frames to and fro, and spraying the paint where needed. The question of whether you can spray paint UPVC sash windows well comes down to how confident you are. If you are confident you can spray up to four layers of paint (three is the norm) while retaining mechanical performance on a sash, the process will go smoothly. And we’re very confident.
We’ve spray painted UPVC sash windows hundreds of times. The most popular colour change is white to RAL 7016 ‘anthracite grey’. Most UPVC sashes we paint are given a satin finish, but you can have a gloss or matte finish if you prefer. It’s up to you. Colour-wise, we work with the RAL chart and British Colour chart. If you find a colour you like on there, we’ll spray your windows in that no problem.
Importantly, we will spray all visible surface points on your sash, including on the inside, and replace the window sealant with a colour-matching one. Our work is so good your windows will appear as though they were originally installed in the new colour.
