Kolorbond paints are high-performance paints used to coat UPVC and powder-coated aluminium. They are one of the best paints in the industry, used in the trade to paint plastics and polymers onsite to a factory standard.
Unlike many of the plastic paints sold in stores, Kolorbond paints bond with UPVC on a molecular level. The simplest explanation of this is that the paint undergoes a chemical reaction with the UPVC when applied. This changes the orientation of the molecules in the paint, so they bond with the UPVC’s molecules.
This is the crucial difference between Kolorbond and regular paint. Regular plastic paint is held on mechanically by adhesion, which although effective at first, results in a less durable finish which can be rubbed off quite easily mechanically.
In addition to UPVC, Kolorbond is a good choice for other hard plastics. Acrylic, polycarbonate and ABS are prime candidates.
Another important characteristic of Kolorbond paints is that when applied to UPVC, no dedicated primer is needed. The first coat of paint is the primer, acting as the perfect first layer for the second and third coat.
